Doodle Chat is a weekly time when men living in one of the Home Office facilities in east London for those seeking asylum in the UK come and sit with us and....... doodle.
They can utilise a wide range of art materials we provide and draw, paint, doodle or just sit and chat. For some it might be a time to practice a bit of English, for others it's a time to silently draw and colour. For others they're actively trying to learn how to express themselves visually with the arts materials we provide.
The important thing is that they feel welcomed, that they feel safe, and if they want to talk that someone will listen.
Many of these men have suffered trauma, they've left behind their families and friends and are escaping difficult situations we can only imagine from a distance.
Doodle Chat is a time where there is no other agenda than them feeling welcomed and listened to in a creative space.
